exp3 final

Bridge The organic shape of the bridge reflects Winfrey's power to reach out to the hearts of the masses, which is greater than and encompasses the power of Ives' product innovation, wrapping Ives' studio in the process.

Oprah Winfrey' Studio Winfrey studio is an auditorium to house talk shows and to seat a large audience.

Jonathan Ives's Studio Constructed of alumuinium and glass, Ives' studio is clean and minimlaistic like his designs for Apple.

Jonathan Ives' Elevator Jonathan Ives' Elevator expands its transparent glass surface layers to become a dining table, like its multi-layered applications in Apple software. Ives' elevator serves as a platform to share, discuss, learn and enjoy. Although it may appeal to others to be of simple design, it houses a very complex idea much like the iPad.

Oprah Winfrey's Elevator Oprah Winfrey's elevator splits into two halves which become the two chairs, reflecting the presence of her arrival consisting of the talk host chair and the other half for an audience or guest (Ives' chair).

Meeting Point The meeting point is the result of the power of technology and media combined and its interdependency on each other to appeal to the masses.

The Grand Crayon

mashup

In what may be a major endorsement of the social media’s growing influence in today’s world, Oprah Winfrey announced yesterday that after 25 years on the air, Jonathan Ive has been Apple’s star designer, a fact little known and less published in his native Britain due to the obsessive culture of secrecy at Apple. When Lady Gaga asked him in the late Nineties to create the eye-popping ‘Monster Ball Tour’ which became the highest grossing tour by a headlining artist and could easily go down as one of the top ten highest of all time. Yet it was the Mother Monster who seemingly did the impossible by unseating Oprah. This is only the third time in seven years that Oprah has surrendered the top slot to someone else, the other two being to celebrities are Lady Gaga and Jonathan Ive.
Jonathan Ive is not like other product designer, recent conjecture that he is preparing to walk away from Apple to Oprah Winfrey Show and deny Britain the talents of one of the most influential designers of the modern age. Ive says Winfrey is a master of impression management. Oprah remains globally influential and her followers have spawned what has been described as the “Oprah Effect”; the sheer power of her opinions and endorsement to influence public opinion, especially consumer purchasing choices. When it comes to the arena of sensitive topics, like abortion, she would be viewed as the “enemy” either way, which would disrupt her image and power.

Experiment 2

5 Environment Capture

Merging Land and Form
The landform itself has been sculpted through and around the structure in order to articulate a ramp like surface that connects the various elements of the architecture, in particular the two labs to the meeting point.

View from Issac's lab overlooking the meeting point.

Inside the Meeting Space
The meeting space is within a curtain of light where the clients Agnessi and Issac meet in order to share, challenge and combine ideas. In relation to the 'ElectoLiquid Aggregation' quote, this space represents the power into which the clients enter in order for a natural selection of ideas to occur.

View of Agnesis's lab, in foreground, with applied light texture. The lab can be seen in the background covered in a medium texture. The labs represent the universe away from the meeting space in which the mathematicians conceive their initial ideas and evolve further those selected and aggregated in the meeting space.

An Island of Ideas
The architecture and landform have come together to create an environment that facilitates the generation of ideas by means of a continuous feed back loop. In the same way that nature evolves through a series of tested variations so might the ideas of these mathematicians.
